How can I negotiate a better price on my home owners Insurance?
How can I negotiate a better price on my home owners Insurance?
They rasied my premium about $70, and I lost one months coverage because the agent listed the policy a month early, so now now the premium is now due earlier also. And I haven't even paid the premium until a month later.
Anyways I keep getting the run around, they can lower it but they need $1000 deductible. I do not want the Auto tied into this, its under a different name. This raised the dwelling and personal property which is 70% of the value. I'm sure the real value went down this year.
Companies usually have grace periods so being behind in premium does not always mean that your policy has lapsed so you should verify that with the agent. Then have the agent check the policy to make sure that all discounts are being applied (multi policy discount, safe driver, claim free, in force, etc). If not, then the agent can request that they be added to your policy by underwriting.
If your agent is captive, meaning that he/she represents one company, I would suggest taking a copy of your policies to an independent agent. They would be able to "shop" your insurance with many different companies to get you the best deal. To find a local independent agent, just look for IIAB logo in the phonebook.
Hope this helps.

can I get a salvage bid from a wrecking yard online for a total loss vehicle?
I am an independent appraiser dealing with automotive claim for insurance companies. I work late and sometimes need to obtain 3 salvage bid on total loss vehicle. to upload my work in a timely fashion I would like to be able to go on a web site for this information insted of calling wrecking yards the next day.
Thank you all. I do use IAA and Copart depending on the insurance company I'm working for. Some company do pay for these services and some do not. There is monthly fee involved for these services.
I work for a major auto insurance company as an adjuster. We send all of our vehicles to IAA.
It might not be as accurate as calling, but you should be able to get a pretty good approximation of a vehicle's salvage value online at their salvage analysis site. There are about 25 different classes of damage, and the option to look at pictures to get a better idea of the true salvage value.
All you need is a year, make, model, and general description of the damage (left side, rollover, flood, etc.) and it will give you the average salvage sale amount for all matching vehicles within the last year. I dispatch IAA to pick vehicles up through their website as well.
I don't know if it costs anything, as if it is, my company pays for it. I don't know if IAA is an option in your area, but they're pretty widespread. It would definitely take a lot of time out of my day if I actually called. Their website is very thorough.
Try these sites:

Is the Electric Insurance company a good company for home owners insurance?
They have an "A" / Stable rating from AM Best, which is very good. This grade is from June 12, 2007 when it was upgraded to the "A".
Based on their website, I would guess they are mostly a personal lines company (Auto, Home, Renters, etc) but also have a commercial auto division.
Their AMB # is 002146
Their NAIC # Is 21261
They are domiciled in Beverly, MA
Based on nothing more than the "A" rating, I would say it is a good company. If you are really interested you can do more research using the above numbers.
Good Luck.

How does insurance change if I have my engagement ring and wedding band welded together?
My husband insured my engagement ring when he purchased it. Now that I have two rings, I would like to have them welded together. Would this cancel or nullify the insurance on my engagement ring? Would I have to re-insure the rings after I have them welded together?
It's not going to change them at all. YOu might want to ask your agent to note your file, that the two rings have been welded – but it won't affect value, coverage, or anything else.

Do landlords usually have homeowner insurance?
Do landlord usually have homeowner insurance? Also is it true that most homeowner insurance have liability coverage? And if they took out a mortgage does the mortgage company require them to have some kind of homeowner insurance?
Yes, if they have a mortgage they are required to carry rental property insurance if not the mortgage company will forceplace insurance on the home which only covers the loan. They come with liability coverage yes. Anywhere from 100,000 to 300,000 liability coverage. That would be in case someone sued then for anything.

Is there a law in NYS that says all health insurance companies are obligated to pay for a home birth?
I am having a home birth and want to find out if my health insurance company is obligated to pay. When I call them, they give me no answers. (Empire Blue Cross) Someone told me there was a law that in NY all insurance companies were obligated to pay for home birth.
Nope. And here in TX, they aren't, either. I looked into it – wanting a home birth with my last baby.
See, they have "in network" providers. My insurance company – Cigna – just doesn't HAVE any in network midwives (in HOUSTON, TX, the 4th largest city in the USA!). They WOULD pay for a midwife in a birthing center – just not in a home. Unfortunately, here in TX, birthing centers are not allowed to do vbacs.
It's a racket. They COULD have paid $3000 for all my prenatal and delivery – instead, they've got bills for over $15,000 for a C-section again, as the hospitals don't like to wait for women to labor (time is money!).
