Do you think if we had a fourth generation American Hispanic as our president he would?
he/she be sympathetic to all Mexico citizens? Do you think he/she would give illegal aliens more and more freedoms?
I would think he/she really couldn't identify with Mexico's citizens, but do you think he/she would attempt to strictly because of race? It's a hypothetical, but was just curious of your opinions.
I have many third generation Hispanic friends and, besides their skin color, you would never know they were Hispanic. One sounds like a surfer when he talks. None of them can speak fluent spanish. And they don't like illegals b/c many have had auto accidents caused by illegals, and they never have insurance. They just don't identify with them at all.
I'm an independent. I voted for Bill, then Gore, Dubya, Hillary in the primaries, then McCain for prez. So I'm all over the place. I just know I really don't care for Obama or his policies.

Racial identity and conflict are very complex issues because people in general are very complex, having different backgrounds, thoughts and opinions. There is obviously a stereotype of the two groups that do not get a along, but like every stereotype it is a generalization, and probably a poor one. I think the best thing to do is simply assume you don't know what millions of people you don't know think based on a small sample of friends.

I'm Hispanic, descended of Hispanics who have been in this country since before it was this country. Some even helped to defend the Alamo.
And I identify with Mexican citizens. Want to know why? Because as it turns out, they are also human. I identify with them as a species, and you can too if you try.
They want what you want. They just want to be able to take care of their families, providing them with food and shelter. Just like you want.
We have all forgotten that these are our brothers and sisters. I am more than happy to either help them here, or help their home country so they can stay there but be able to survive.

A fourth generation person is an American…not an hyphenated American. He or she would put American interest before a country he/she never lived in. But, that doesn't mean he/she would not have empathy for people of many other countries.
