Why would any American in their right mind support Communism?

I agree that American capitalism can sometimes get out of hand and be selfish as we saw with Madoff's ponzi scheme and the housing crisis. I also believe that healthcare is too expensive in America and everyone should have insurance.

But honestly, we have a much better system than Communism.

It makes no sense as to why some of these college professors, celebrities, and youth who feel that America has an oppressive system would think Communism would be better.

Karl Marx may have intended a system where everyone was to be treated equally, share wealth, and enjoy peace. But in reality, Communist governments took away individual rights such as free speech, freedom of religion, and a free press. They also would have secret police spy on people and there was no such thing as privately owned property. The citizens in countries like the USSR, North Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, etc. developed a lower standard of living as they became poorer and less educated and their lifespans decreased. The military in Communist nations is often mandatory rather than volunteer. Owning a small business, and expanding, would be even more difficult to do in a Communist society.

Again, America needs to fix certain aspects of its system. But it annoys me when people wear t-shirts of Che Guevarra and claim that Communism would be a better alternative.

I'm not sure why, either. But Marx said a Communist society will only work after it's been Capitalist first!

I recently received an email with the information given below. One thing that I didn't realize, and that I don't think is stressed enough, is that this plan is only an option – each American has complete freedom to choose this plan or keep the plan they already have. The government is not trying to take over or control your life.
This is not something out of Orwell and 1984.

Why should she have a ABORTION in the first place?
Beeing for this bill will hurt the mom because non-licensed physicians will do abortions.
This bill is not about Abortion being llegal or no?

This is just the beginning, he has already signed a executive order for American taxpayer dollars to fund abortions around the world. Obama wants to Ban All Semi Automatic Firearms, and order mass Confiscation of other types of Firearms. This goes against the 2nd amendment, and against the beleifs of our founding fathers.

Obama wants to Restrict Free Speech with the fairness doctrine.

Obama Supports Partial Birth Abortion, and Abortion

Obama was raised a Muslim.

1. Pleae provide a link to a reputable site which says Obama wants to order a mass confication of firearms. He is against semi-automatic weapons, but I can't find any evidnce about taking away guns already in existence.

2. There are a lot of people in favor of the fairness doctrine. There may be very good arguments in its favor. However, there is unlikely to be enough support in Congress to bring it into law. Thus, Obama's support is irrelevant.

3. First, Obama's position on abortion is: "Abortions should be legally available in accordance with Roe v. Wade". Next, why is that facism? According to you, facism is forcing your belief on others. Obama's position allows women to choose if they want an aborition. Your position forces your anti-aborition views onto all women. Who's the facist?

4. Obama was not raised as a Muslim. He was never a Muslim. He is a Christian. Case closed.

5. Besides the rhetorical hyperbole, the fact is that some taxation is going to be required in the future. The deficit and the debt are too high to rely on budget cuts, mainly because even Republicans in Congress are against cutting the budget. We will have to raise taxes eventually. Get used to it.

6. He does not want to force everyone to purchase expensive health insurance. The cost of insurance is a function of economies of scale. A single health care system will take advantages of these economies.

7. Why do the endorsements of Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi and Reno make him a fascist? Also, Pelosi has not endorsed either candidate yet. And Janet Reno endorsed Clintion, not Obama.

Nothing you have listed is 'fascist'. Just because you disagree with his policies doesn't mean the world will end. And please, GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT. It's just embarrasing.

Well it use to be Life, Liberty, and Property, but I think its strayed far from that today.

Freedom of Press? – ON HEALTHCARE REFORM?

According to the Connecticut Coalition for Universal Health Care, the United States is the only industrialized nation not to have universal healthcare coverage to its citizens. In 1993 Bill Clinton seeked to install such a system called a multi-payer health care system that would focus on the center of the healthcare crisis of America: COST and COVERAGE. Today, over 40 million Americans lack healthcare coverage and many more millions are with inadequate healthcare insurance coverage. However the media, particularly conservative stations such as FOX labeled the plan instead of described it. As a result people were told that this was "socialized medicine," and as a result of polls, most opposed it. Criticism of lack of coverage by companies in a few ads were hardly or never aired because of the threat of lawsuit by the company for "libel and slander". Is this freedom of press? Or is press controlled by the market?

the first answer shows the reason we don't have it. each american feels that he/she needs his own money for their own consumption. after all, people judge us based on what we own. if we give away our money to healthcare, well, i can't wear a pin that says that. then i won't be able to afford a new deck and my neighbor will have more status than me. who cares if people are dying of things that could be easily treated if they could afford to see a doctor, i need another house. that's the american mindset. we're not willing to make the sacrifice.

Same with cars and just about everything else. Property Taxes is a big one. You think you own your property, try not paying your taxes on a paid off piece of property!
