automotive insurance

retail insurance question?

I'm doing a project for school, and I really just need a guestamated answer. A friend of mine said that a lot of the numbers for insurance are done as a percent of the overall profits of the business, knowing that number would be great.

Alright so, I’m working on an automotive repair and used cars sales type deal, comparable to a small dealership. I’d need workers comp, coverage on the land and building and shop equipment, (land is about 2.7 acres) and probably some sort of theft coverage because I would have a lot of other peoples property on hand. There is a way to lock down the parking lot. I would have about 34 people about in my full time employ.

If any one could help that would be awesome.

Wow, this is a very, very large shop.

I've insured these types of businesses before.

Roughly, here's the breakdown, IME:

Property coverage (land, buildings, tools you own: $15,000

Garage liability including dealer/repair plates – you probably have 5 – and $150,000 GKLL coverage – direct excess basis – $70,000 including two paint booths. No tow trucks.

Workers Comp: about $50,000, assuming total payroll about $1,250,000 (given your number of employees)

Misc bonds – licensing, tax bonds, state inspection machine bonds, etc – $5,000

My insurance wont cover my full coverage claim! HELP.?

My transmission blew and my vehicle caught on fire on January 10th this year. I took it to my automotive company that just flushed the transmission a couple months ago. It has been sitting there since that date. I turned in my claim Jan 11th and since then my insurance company wont call me or discuss this matter. Everytime I talk to them they just give me the run around about they dont have enough info to adjust the price correctly. Its been four months! Ive lost my job cause i have no vehicle, i have no money cause i have no job and now im losing my house cause im having trouble paying my bills… Why in the world have I been paying them for full coverage if they wont help me out any!?!? I dont know what to do!! help me! how long can the insurance do NOTHING and have me sit?? I feel like they are taking me for everything I have.
I did have a fire, the firefighters came out and wrote a report. The damage estimate was totaled for the vehicle. All the wires are melted, the motors gone… I have called them constantly. The garage is not taking responsiblity for it. The insurance isnt saying they wont pay they are just not doing anything.

How long can they ignore you? Forever if you let them. Did you have fire, theft and collision coverage? If so, what is the deductible? How badly was the truck damaged? Can it be repaired, or is it totaled? Has the adjuster looked at it?

Figure out how much it will take to make you happy, subtract your deductible if any from that figure, and make a claim for that amount. Stay on them until you get an answer from them. Is the repair shop taking any responsibility for the fire since they had worked on the transmission? Find out, and if not, find out why not.

You've got to be proactive. You can always call the insurance regulator or attorney general in your state and complain. You can contact your state senator and complain. You can threaten to hire an attorney.

Again, it's up to you to ask for what you want and go after it.

looking for any/all job listings in the automotive transmissison mechanic/auto. diagnostic technician field..

I've tried searching for a new job in my specified field: "Automotive Diagnostic Technician-Specialist"; ie; also "Experienced Automotive-Transmission Mechanic," But it seems that I must be going about this in the wrong way…Since Yahoo Job Search keeps saying there aren't any matches. Which I cannot believe there wouldn't be any job openings in this category. I am a very experienced, over-worked, under-paid hard-worker simply looking for a better opportunity– All I want is some job listings in my area of expertise. Is it too much to ask for Health Insurance and fair pay for a family-man Mechanic?
I really hope to recieve some sort of helpful feedback at least…
I live in the San Fernando Valley area-Have car will travel!
Thank you.
Sincerely, Gino A.

Gino,
I don't know how much help this will be. But if you are not interested in working nights, you probably won't want to read this any further.

I got out of retail auto repair a few years ago and got into fleet repair working for Southern California Edison. The pay is excellent and the benefits are top notch. However, they do get something in return. You must be willing to work swing shift (3pm – midnight) because that is when the trucks are in the yard. You must be willing and able to get a class A drivers license with Hazmat endorsement. Which means you have to pass a physical and drug screening. They will pay and assist you in getting the class A license. You have to be willing to work on anything from golf carts to tandem axle trucks. And you must be willing to be on call including being called out at 2 in the morning in some very treacherous weather conditions. Call outs pay double time.

The job is union so pay is not negotiable. But being union comes with a lot of benefits.

To apply you log into SCE.com and click on careers in the lower part of the screen. There will be no job listings for any of the garages. That's okay, there never is any listing. Fill out an online resume and use key words like "automotive" "mechanic" and a few others. The resumes are electronically scanned.

Then be patient. It takes time for someone to call. Positions come open regularly because there is a huge retirement bubble going on.

You will probably get hired on as an automotive attendant. That means you will be fueling vehicles at night. This is where everyone starts. But they never stay there. It is a position until you get a class A license and then bid into a hire position.

It is well worth it!

What do you think will happen when the health care industry crashes?

This one's going to be big. Hospitals have been abusing the system and American people for years, hiring without limits, charging people and the insurance companies whatever they wanted, building lavish palaces and expensive, big, perhaps unnecessary machines…and even now, with every industry cutting back on workers and spending, these people are still hiring?

I've been in Michigan for years dealing with a recession, or is it depression? The hospitals have been doing the same thing here. All the troglodytes have been getting health care jobs when their automotive jobs got cut.

I wonder what will happen when the party ends for these people? Reality has to hit soon. It might be overnight, I don't think they're living in financial reality. The real estate industry was like this too before the collapse.

Will Americans realize this before it's too late? Probably not!
Then what's this?

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2009/01/health-care-ind.html?csp=34

Pancho, it won't be fun, but it'll be reality.

Do you think the care we have today is operating in an economic reality?
Habsburg, they don't turn anyone down for a job. The quality of workers there are the same as the worst people I used to employ at the restaurant I used to manage.

That's not a good sign.

Hospitals weren't too bad until the For-Profit capitalistic people put the medical system on their agenda.
Many not for profit hospitals still do a relatively good job.
It's the insurance companies, the medical supply companies, pharmaceutical companies and other blood suckers who are doing the most damage.

Given the events in our country, and in the world, will we will be hearing a radio address from John Galt? ?

anytime soon? With the nationalization of the banking industry, and today another 150 Billion in bailout for AIG (insurance nationalization), and soon the same for the Automotive industry. How bad will things have to get before Mr. Galt comes to save us? Does anyone know how I can reach him? I like his way of running things much better. Does anyone in Colorado know where he and his merry band might be hiding out?

I search for this man every day.

Because of the collapse of the U.S. financial markets and government sponsored?

bailout of automotive manufacturing, insurance, banking, investment, two lengthy wars, worn military equipment an over taxed military force, the foreclosure of homes and the loss of jobs to other countries. Has America lost it’s super power status in the world?

No. While others are trying to shoulder us out of the way, we still can close down any nation on any field of endeavor.

Are my parents responsible for injury in an auto accident caused by me?

I about just had a question liability. I had an automotive accident the other day. There is the possiblity of an injury in the other party; the accident was my fault. My insurance covers up to only $25,000 for personal injuries. Suppose that the opposing party needs a significant amount over that. I am an 18 year old without much money. Are my parents liable/are they required to fork out the money? I am dependent under them by law and we are all on the same insurance policy. I reside in State of Texas.

Yes your parents are liable. I was in a wreck when I was 17 in 2004. The other party was injured when I hit them. My parents are currently being sued for this wreck. You are considered a minor in the court of law until you are 21. So therefore, my parents are liable for my wreck. I "supposivley" injured the other party and we are in a lawsuit right now. If they win then my parents will owe them whatever she is suing us for. My parents only had coverage for $25,000 also so theywill owe her whatever she wants over that amount. Since I am now an adult she can sue me along with my parents. Lawsuits take a very long time to settle so they can get money from you too when you turn 21 and from you parents also. I reside in the state of Mississippi so I am assuming we have the laws.
