Questions about being a Bankers Life and Causalty Insurance Agent..please help?

I have an interview on Monday for a job with them…What is the process of being a worker there and how much is it going to cost? Is it a legit place or one of those door to door sales people? Pay salary said it could be anywhere from 28,000 a year to 36,000 a year..is that true or no? Please if anyone has any information about this job or anything let me know…I dont want to waste my time, because I need a job ASAP and cant afford to go through some BS..

Understand that a salary in the life insurance business is an illusion. This job, as any sales job, is based on your personal production. If you don't sell you will not be receiving a salary because you will not be employed for long.

Nobody does "door to door" sales but in order to maintain your production level you will spend a good part of your day doing a lot of cold calls. Likely you will be calling relatives and friends you haven't talked to in years (again looking to keep up that personal production).

If you are persistent and don't mind being rejected by "prospects" day after day you could get some valuable experience and make some money. A sobering thought to keep in mind is that 95% of life insurance sales people wash out before the completion of one year..

Is Bankfers Life & Casualty Co good company to work for?

I just got call from them today for interview next week. I would like to know if anyone has worked for that company and what was your experience. Bankers Life is an insurance company specializing in selling term insurance,life insurace, annuitiesm medicare supplement for seniors. Looks like very legitimate company, more than Primerica or Vector Marketing or Amway.
They called me to come for interveiw and bring my copy of resume and dress professionally.
But it does not look as good as State Farm or Blue Cross Blue Shield. Certainly their products are limited. The thing that I see yellow flag is that when they called me, they did not tell for what position I would be interviewed. It does look like I will be interviewed for sale on commission. It is Ok, I may try as long as I won't have to pay for training or license. It would waste of time and money. Also another turn-off would be for me to make cold-calls and visit homes. Anyway who wants strangers at home?
Currently I am actively looking for job and before they called I planned to apply-in-person in couple places in downtown and job agencies. Of course I used Monster, CareerBuilder but that does not seem enough to land on job. So I am asking here in this forum in order to determine if its worth to go to their interview or better go to downtown. Thanks in advance.

PS. I know the question here has been posted couple times but I did not find info about if I would have to pay upfront.

Anyone say straight comission. It's a great job if you don't want to make money. Primerica is roughly the same thing give or take with the advantage of offering something that people may actually want. Also Primerica is something you can do on the side so it's possible that you can be doing something else at the same time. I can't say Bankers Life is a scam but it's not likely somewhere where you'll find a career and for that matter neither is Primerica. State Farm, Prudential, Allstate are all similar in nature where you'll work reall hard for a real long time and if (theres a real big IF) you survive long enough you'll make a reasonable living.

If you have a pulse Bankers Life and Casualty wants you. They can pretend all they want but as long as you are currently on the 10 most wanted list you're hired. There shouldn't be any real significant upfront. I think I paid for a class to get licensed and then I realized that I made no money for the rest of the time. I didn't lose a ton of money but it was a complete waste of my time.

I have no experience in selling insurance and yet they called me for interviews. I have been to two interviews already and they impressed me with numbers and compensation. But is it true? And what is the work environment like? Do you have to pay money out of your pocket besides paying for your own transportation and business cards? My family says its a scam and i will be making a big mistake. Answers from people who work in san antonio's office would be nice. But any answer is helpful.

You will have to get your insurance license in order to be paid ANY commissions from the policies that they will sell when you take your sales manager out and introduce him/her to all your family and friends. Once you get your license the company will drop all your commissions to you at once so it will be a big paycheck, but you have to be licensed in order to be paid. As far as I know Bankers is an alright company, you will be a captive agent with them which means you can only sell their products. With no experience, if you like the insurance business, it could be a good start for you to learn the business. Ask them about getting licensed, are they going to send you to classes and will they pay for it. Some companies do that are hungry for agents. As far as the environment, you will have a sales manager to train you, and he/she will ride with you when you go out on the leads that they will provide to you to sell insurance to. They have a pretty good lead system in place so you may do good if you are a go getter and like talking to people. Best wishes

I work in a nursing facility in the admissions office and need to verify insurance prior to admitting a resident. I need phone #'s for insurance companies which are a supplement to medicare such as AARP, Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United Health Care, Bankers Life, Humana Gold,and other insurance companies. Is there a list of these phone #'s? (toll free preferably but if not, other phone #'s will do) I need them to verify insurance coverage for residents.

I would suggest calling your State Insurance Commissioner's office. They would also have phone numbers for the insurance companies that provide coverage and, I'm betting, would have a publication or list of Medicare supplemental policies. This office is responsible for every insurance policy sold in your state. Good folks to know. Check it out! Good luck!

Work for Insurance company or Real Estate?

I keep getting offere interview from insurance company like Bankers Life and Casualty Company, America life and others. will it be tought at first? i from California do i need license? is the pay depend on client?

both are tough at first, both require licensure.

I do insurance and love it. Do what you love, it's the only way you will survive in either.

Any thoughts on Bankers LIfe and Trust and index based annuities?

Got a card in the mail addressing insurance issues from Bankers. Agent thinks I should convert my IRA to an indexed base annuity. A friend thought Bankers didn't have a good reputation and now I don't want an annuity at all, maybe a target mutual fund instead. Thoughts on Bankers or annuities appreciated.

I think I want to work with LTC insurance. I'm in my mid 30's and would like to change careers. Does Bankers's pay for training? Do they have in-house training?

Based on my experience with them, I do not remember receiving my fees for insurance class and the exam. They do not have their own insurance classes, you have to go to a local insurance school. After you are licensed, then they have in-house training. The first three months they give you some leads. After the three months, you purchase them. Better get great real fast.

I do not have experience selling insurance and I want to know if anybody has ever worked for them doing this. I will be working on commission if that is of any help.

Sales jobs are stressful because you are under pressure to bring in revenue. If you are offered a base salary in addition to the commission, and you think that you can put in the effort to be a good sales person, then you should take it.

If you don't think you're going to be a good sales person then you won't earn any commission and won't last long enough to earn the base salary. I have never worked in sales because I don't need that kind of pressure.

I interviewed for a job with them yesterday, but I don't have experience in selling insurance. From all aspects it sounds like a good company to work for, but my family thinks I would be making a huge mistake in going to work selling insurance since most insurance companies pay on commission. Recruiter said salary would be on an average of 45 to 50K the first year, with more incentives later on. Sounds too good to be true? My family thinks it's a scam. Although I have over 20 years working retail management, it would be a great career change working with seniors since that is what the company caters to. Any advice?

I have worked for Bankers Life for over 5 years. I was in a similar situation…. No experience in sales, horrified of commission only, and my family was convinced it was a scam. I am a single mom and wanted the flexibility of being self employed, but needed good income. Be ready to work hard, and make sure you are always honest, and truly trying to help these seniors. They are amazing clients, and I could never imagine doing anything else. The first years (2-3) can be tough, and most people give up, but if you have some savings to fall back on, or very little money going out, or a supportive spouse that can help financially, then I say go for it. I had none of the above. $45 -50K is modest. After my first full year I have made 95K the second year, 87K, 65K, 73K. Very happy with my decision. Let me know if I can help. Good luck.
