Can an insurance company cancel home owners insurance because you own a dog?
We have a friend that was told by insurance company that he had to get rid of his 2 labs because they are high on the bite list. If he diesn't get rid of them the insurance company will cancel him.
Yes, they can. However, Labs are not generally considered biters and I'm wondering what list they were looking at.
Have either of the dogs bitten anyone?
There seems to be something else going on here. Read the article below though and tell them to find another insurance company. Not all insurance companies are anti-dog. They're just anti-dogs that bite and I'm having a problem with Labs being classed as biters. They are not a breed known for biting. If they were, Guide Dogs for the Blind wouldn't be using them as one of their main breeds for Guide Dogs.
Additional info: Here's the only dog bite list I could find. Labs are not on it. (the number at the end of each breed is the number of fatalities between 1979 – 1998)
1. Pit Bull — 76
2. Rottweiler — 44
3. German Shephard — 27
4. Husky — 21
5. Malamute — 15
6. Wolf-Dog Hybrid — 14
7. Mixed Breed — 12
8. Chow-Chow — 11
9. Doberman-Pincher — 9
10. Great Dane — 8
11. St. Bernard — 8

Is the Electric Insurance company a good company for home owners insurance?
They have an "A" / Stable rating from AM Best, which is very good. This grade is from June 12, 2007 when it was upgraded to the "A".
Based on their website, I would guess they are mostly a personal lines company (Auto, Home, Renters, etc) but also have a commercial auto division.
Their AMB # is 002146
Their NAIC # Is 21261
They are domiciled in Beverly, MA
Based on nothing more than the "A" rating, I would say it is a good company. If you are really interested you can do more research using the above numbers.
Good Luck.

What's the cheapest and best company for car insurance/home insurance/life?
We are moving out of our current state and need to switch companies. I was just wondering what the cheapest company (also with good service) for all types of insurance would be. Thanks!
the way I do it is I wait till I am due for renewal then I shop around and when I find the cheapest quote I ask my insurers if they can match it, if they cannot then I do not renew and go with the new guys.
If you check out a good comparison site you get to save much time as the site will provide quotes from all main insurers see this one

Does anyone know who bought out Protective Home Circle Insurance Company?
I am looking for an insurance company known as Protective Home Circle from the 50's my father had a life insurance policy with them. I am having trouble locating this company. Thanks for your help.
You've got two decent bets (I searched two databases and didn't find it) – first, see if there is an issuing agent's name and/or address on the policy, and see if you can find it that way. Second bet is to contact your state insurance department, see if they can track it down.

Does anyone know anything about "Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance" company?
I'm considering switching companies from Mercury to Ameriprise because of lower premiums, but I've read some not so good things about the company (like they take a loooong time to process a claim). I looked on Consumer Reports, because I feel they have reliable reviews, but I need a subscription, which I do not have.
So any information will be helpful, including a website that perhaps does reviews of auto insurance companies.
Thank you,
Pauley
I dunno about any website that does reviews but I have Ameriprise auto insurance and have had a couple of claims and they did a good job of handling them. Well, they did exactly what they are supposed to do anyways. I even wanted to have some bodywork done at a shop not in their network and didnt have any problems at all. I cant really say they are any better or worse than other insurance companies. The only company I've heard a lot of good reviews of is State Farm but theres a reason for that, you get what you pay for.

Is it the agent's job to call the home insurance company to get a policy or should i do it?
our closing will be this wednesday…everything is good …the only thing that is missing is the home insurance thanx
Some agents will help you with this but I think it is in your best interest to shop around for the best rates and coverage. Check with Consumer Reports.

Would Greenville NC be considered by a home insurance company to be a HIGH RISK hurricane area?
The place got ripped up badly and flooded in 1999's hurricane Floyd but I understand that to have been a rare occurrence of 2 hurricanes back to back. Just wondering if I would want to invest there, and whether flood insurance would be highly recommended.
Although it's rare to have 2 hurricanes back to back, even 1 hurricane in the last decade would tell me yes, get flood insurance. Also, just call a homeowners agent to check on whether it's in an identified flood plain. They might look that up for you for free.

My home insurance company is asking me for a sale and/or installation documentation for my windows and other..
opening protection showing the wind speeds that the protective device can withstand. I am in Florida. Why they are asking for it after 6 months I renewed my policy and been living on that house for 1 1/2 yr? If someone can explain it to me.. please!
Well, sounds like either 1. you had a claim (or the prior owner did) or 2. the company is "reunderwriting" their homeowners book of business.
You're in hurricane alley. They are LIKELY looking for an excuse to cancel your policy. I would knock myself out bending over backwards to dig that information up as soon as possible.

The damage from hurricanes there is small compared to the damage from floods and not all floods are a result of hurricanes. If a property is in a flood plain you definitely need flood insurance.
