Just got a letter from our homeowners insurance company telling us they are terminating our policy. Why?
No explanation. Is this common or did we do something that would cause this? We haven't even been in the house for a year.
By law, on the notice, it has to state the reason for cancellation or nonrenewal. Have you paid your bills on time? You state you haven't been in the house for a year. Is it vacant? That is a valid reason for nonrenewal. If it is vacant, some companies will not even insure it. Some will insure with a basic DP1 policy that probably will not include vandalism or will include it with a high premium. Is it rented? If it is rented and you still have a homeowners policy (HO1, HO2 or HO3), it is a valid reason for nonrenewal of a homeowners policy. You need to purchase a dwelling fire policy (DP1, DP2 or DP3) for rental properties.

How should I choose an insurance company for my homeowners insurance?
What are some things I should look for within in? What are some important questions I should ask? I have checked with my auto insurance company, and they are a little high, so I am researching other companies, but want to know what I should look for.
If you look at companies that are different from you auto carrier, ask you you would get a discount for swwithing that policy. Many insurers give discounts for multiple policies.

Who can I contact to find out if my homeowners insurance company is being fair regarding a claim.?
During a recent hailstorm in Ohio my home and outbuildings were damaged. Damaged occurred to one side of my garage, the roof was replaced, but the 8" alluminum siding is no longer made. They are telling us to cover the one side with anything else we can find and they will pay, but they will not pay to side the whole garage, even though this siding is no longer manufactured.
you can either contact the better business bureau
http://www.bbb.org/
or the ohio attorney general

switching homeowners insurance companies… do i need to ?
let the mortgage holder know?? it is not escrowed into our mortgage but do i need to notify the bank or anything like that?
The mortgage holder needs to know. Depending upon which insurance company you select, that company may not have a "A.M. Best" rating and the mortgage holder might not accept the policy if the rating is low or if there is no rating. It is best to buy insurance from a Nationally known company and you won't have a problem.

Affordable homeowners/auto insurance company that includes liability insurance for home daycares?
If anyone knows a good company for homeowners and auto insurance. It has to be able to accept home daycares in the liability. Everyone I try wont accept you if you have a home daycare. I have farmers and I have been told it is very high. If anyone knows please let me know. Serious answers only please. Thanks in advance! (O:
I have a business policy attached to my farmers but I guess most of the insurance companies that I have talked to wont let me have them both. Either they have it or not.
Home insurance is actually very flexible. I don’t understand all the details of my homeowners policy, but my home insurance agent is always helpful. Try calling your agent or a agent in your area. http://www.usinsuranceadvisor.com/Home-Insurance.html They will be able to help you.

What is the best homeowners insurance company?
We are looking at Nationwide vs. General Casualty for our new policy.
What are some things to look for, and which would you recommend?
Those are two good ones, but there are others. It’s hard to figure out yourself, which is why I recommend speaking with an insurance broker. A broker works with many different companies and can find the best coverage and price for you. To find one, log onto a website like http://www.homeownerswiz.com and request a free quote.

Does the insurance company that offers a general liability policy care about the homeowners insurance?
Or vice versa. I have a home based business where no business actually takes place in the home but my address for the general liability policy is the home address. Will the general liability need proof of homeowners or will homeowners need info on general liability? If none of the business takes place in the home will the homeowners insurance company have a problem?
The homeowners carrier cares about any kind of business in the home that might adversely affect their risk. But if you're only using the home as a mailing address, then neither of them will care.

Do I need homeowners insurance during foreclosure?
Due to extended unemployment, a required out-of-state move, and inability to sell my home, foreclosure is underway. My homeowners insurance company hasn't received payment from my mortgage escrow and is asking me to pay the bill. Obviously the mortgage company isn't going to pay anything out of escrow right now. Do I need to keep homeowners insurance on the home while waiting for foreclosure to be finalized?
Look at it this way – what if the house burns to the ground. Then whose going to pay? You will be fully responsible. However, I'm surprised that the mortgage company isn't paying. I used to work in a foreclosure department, and we were always sure that insurance was up to date, in case of such an occurrence. I would call your mortgage company to find out its status.

How do I find out my neighbors homeowners insurance company?
My daughter was bitten by my neighbors dog. He refuses to pay. I want to file a claim on his homeowners insurance, but he won’t tell me.
i am in the insurance business. you can contact YOUR insurance co. and let them know what happened. this will get the ball rolling. they will interview you about what happened, so make sure you have all medical bills on record. they can reimburse you for any expenses that you have incurred. what they will do is subrogate those damages against your neighbor which basically means they will make him pay your insurance co back. he will either have to decide to go to court and pay it out of his own pocket which means that he will also need to higher an attorney, or, go ahead and file it is a claim and let the insurance companies handle it. they will probably go ahead and let the insurance companies handle it since this will save him money. if you are really needing your money back go ahead and call your insurance co and file a claim. the only downside is that it may take awhile for them to get this handled if they do not have a contact number for your neighbor. they will have to notify them via mail.
you can always get an attourney but that could get costly and time consuming as well. i think going the insurance route is the better choice. every state has a department of insurance that you can contact as well. you can also call them and see what they recommend. good luck to you.
by the way, filing this claim on your insurance co. should not count against you or affect your future premiums in a negative way.
