44% raise in auto insurance premiums for one accident in 19 years with Allstate Insurance company?

I hit a parked vehicle and filed a claim to have my car repaired ($2800 in damages). The owner of the parked vehicle did not file a claim for any damage, even though they were contacted.
Has anyone else had better treatment from other reliable insurance companies and should I look for a change? I thought my loyalty meant something!
I am the only person on this policy and the only driver of my vehicle.

When you’re involved in an at-fault accident you automatically become a risk. The fact that you’re with a preferred carrier, they will raise your rate considerably for the accident was your fault. Loyalty is irrevelant with any insurance company. If you receive an infraction, you will get rated accordingly. Sorry, but it’s the truth.

I would definetely shop around for a better deal. I gurantee you will find a better deal.

Here's the situation. I have a 15 year old son who is about to get his provisional license. His mother, my ex-wife, and step-father want to buy him a car. They will buy it, they will be on the title, they will be the owners. If they insure the car in their own name, is there a separate policy for my son as the driver? In other words, could I add my son to my insurance policy and he be able to drive "their" car? How does that work for my two other vehicles? And how does that work for their other two vehicles? Obviously, there will be times that he'll need to drive something other than this car that they are buying for him.

your son should be covered on the car that he will drive most often and added to the family policy of his mother and step-father because they are the custodial parents and their name is on the title of the car
since he does not live with you, he will be covered if you give him permission to drive your vehicles

Right now I am having G1 licence and bought a car. My G1 exit test is on June 5,2007. Can I apply as registered owner having G1 and add primary driver who's having G licence? How long will it take to get insurance? Also please provide cheap auto insurance provider's name.

Keep this in mind when buying insurance: Car insurance does NOT have to cost a arm and a leg. The reason why people pay more than they should is that they don't take a few minutes and simply ask more than one insurer about their rates. Getting more than one quote WILL save you money.

At the very least, if you get two quotes, you can either compare and take the cheaper one, or tell the other to match or beat it. Think about it. Not getting multiple quotes is just a bad move, and you're telling the insurance agents to rip you off. You compare when you go to the store, why not compare when you're spending hundreds, maybe thousands a year on car insurance?

Another thing: Get ONLINE car insurance quotes. They only take minutes to do, you don't have to talk to anyone online, and you'll get better rates because you're dealing directly with the company, not their insurance agents. You're practically guaranteed to save, because you won't be paying that agent fee.

Your deductible is for damage to your car, not his. If the damage is less than HIS deductible, you pay for the damage. You can let your insurance company pay, but it is normally more cost-effective in the long run to just pay it. It saves having an accident on your insurance record. If the damage is greater than HIS deductible, and he files a claim, His insurance company will sue you and your insurance company for the full amount. Your company ends up paying, you have an at-fault accident on your record, lose eligibility for no-claims discount for up to 5 years, and possibly have a surcharge on your premium.

you can get a insurance policy from some insurance companies. it is a non owner insurance policy. it should cover you in any vehicle that is borrowed or rented. the insurance company we have told us we could do this but it cost more than having a car on the policy. you should call an insurance company and ask them about it.

My car was broken-into and my mac was stolen. I had taken comprehensive auto insurance, but they say that auto insurance wont cover items lost due to vandalism and that it will be covered by home insurance. I live in a rented place and so dont have homeowner's insurance. Would the landlord's home insurance cover it, since the item belongs to the home that is owned by the homeowner?

The most qualified people to answer this question are the people your landlord is insured with, NOT people at yahoo.
Why not ask them and be done with.

I am on a small retirement and Social Security Disabilty form a spinal disease. My wife suffers form a eye problems and is almost blind. Insurance for my wife uses up all my retirement and we get $24.00 dollars after paying health insurance for her. Social Security Disabilty does not cover our housing and food expenses. My spinal disease has used up all of our savings and now it looks like we will have to sell our home just to feed ourselves. I had to sell our pickup to get thur last month. We have no money for clothes, auto insurance, home owners insurance, or anything else. We go no where or do anything that cost. We had to take out a second on our hourse. Now we can not make the payments, so pretty soon we will lose our house and will be homeless. I worked 25 years past what the doctors told me I should have been working. I'm at the end of my rope and can see no answer for a way out. Because we have a home we don't qualifiy for any assistance. What are we suppose to do?

I am sorry to hear of your situation. There are things you did not mention like your age. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions in life. This may seem hard and cruel, but my advice is to sell the house before it is taken from you. You did say that the only thing keeping you from getting assistance is because you own the house. Sell the house.

Responsibility of owner, registrant and insurance holder for auto liability?

I am wondering who holds the most responsibility for an auto – the owner, the person on the registration or the person with the insurance policy. Assuming that these people are all different.

More specifically, if I have a car on my insurance policy which is owned by someone else and registered to that person am I legally responsible as the policy holder?
Say I am leasing a car, so the title is held by the finance company but the car is registered to me. And my wife is the primary policy holder of the insurance. I am listed as a driver, but the policy is not in my name.

The person who is the principal on the insurance policy is the one held responsible for any claims. It doesn't matter who owns the vehicle, who is driving, or who else is listed as "other drivers" on the policy. That is for claims.

The person who's name appears on the registration (or lease papers) is ultimately responsible for the operation of the vehicle. That is for law suits or illegal operation of the vehicle. (Photo enforcement of laws, illegal parking, damage done to others by the vehicle, etc.)

The person driving the vehicle is responsible for safe and legal operation of the vehicle. That is for vehicle stop tickets. (speeding, reckless driving, etc. where the vehicle is actually stopped by law enforcement.)

An interesting scenario: Vehicle causes a wreck and leaves the scene of an accident. Witness could not see driver, but wrote down license plate number.

The Insured is liable for all damages, the owner (name on registration/lease papers) can be ticketed or arrested unless they give the name of the person using their vehicle at the time, (and signs a legal statement/appears in court to swear to it.) in which case the person actually driving receives the legal penalties.
