How can I negotiate a better price on my home owners Insurance?
How can I negotiate a better price on my home owners Insurance?
They rasied my premium about $70, and I lost one months coverage because the agent listed the policy a month early, so now now the premium is now due earlier also. And I haven't even paid the premium until a month later.
Anyways I keep getting the run around, they can lower it but they need $1000 deductible. I do not want the Auto tied into this, its under a different name. This raised the dwelling and personal property which is 70% of the value. I'm sure the real value went down this year.
Companies usually have grace periods so being behind in premium does not always mean that your policy has lapsed so you should verify that with the agent. Then have the agent check the policy to make sure that all discounts are being applied (multi policy discount, safe driver, claim free, in force, etc). If not, then the agent can request that they be added to your policy by underwriting.
If your agent is captive, meaning that he/she represents one company, I would suggest taking a copy of your policies to an independent agent. They would be able to "shop" your insurance with many different companies to get you the best deal. To find a local independent agent, just look for IIAB logo in the phonebook.
Hope this helps.

Auto Insurance: Does the auto insurance have to be in the name of the car owner?
My friend is being positioned overseas for 3 years by his company. He has an older car that is paid off. He is allowing me to use it while he is away. I have to have it insured in my name but the car is titled in his name. He will cancel his insurance once I get mine. Can I get auto insurance even though the car title is in someone else's name? I have no ownership in the vehicle.
you should be able to as long as you get his signature on the policy….I did the same with my brother. He was the owner and i was a full time insured driver and he was totally uninsured on the car, i just had the bills sent to me instead of him.

Can Home Owner Insurance be used to pay for auto accident?
guy who t-boned my car says he is going to pay for it using home owners ins., how? his auto ins. lapsed 9 days prior to wreck. help me understand
unfortunately uninsured motorist covers bodily only in AZ & I Only have LIABILITY ![]()
He can't.
The standard home owners policy policy specifically excludes automobile liability.
There is no way around this.
Unless he plans on filing committing insurance fraud and filing a false claim against his homeowners (like a staged theft) and collecting that money to pay you – there is no other way. Given that this is insurance fraud and a crime – you would want no part of that.
His homeowners insurance company will not cover a auto accident.

auto insurance or home owners?
my dogs went crazy this weekend and attacked my car, i need my hood, front bumper, and side panels replaced. can i claim it under homeowners? since it was at home and not a car accident?
Nope, homeowners won’t cover any damage to your car.
It only covers dog damage, if your dog does damage to SOMEONE ELSE’S property – not yours. Because it’s a liability coverage, and you can’t sue yourself, YOU cannot collect for damages under YOUR homeowners liability section.
Might want to get that dog to a vet – I can’t imagine that they don’t have damage to their mouth, after all that metal biting . . .

Has anybody dropped their auto insurance or home owner's policy to save money?
Some states allow you to prove "financial responsibility" instead of purchasing auto insurance. If you don't have a mortgage, nobody will force you to buy homeowner's insurance. Has anybody done it? How does it work? and would you recommend it? I think insurance — any insurance — should ONLY be purchased if it is a good deal financially, and if not, why should you if you are willing and financially able to take the risk yourself? Shouldn't it be a goal to become self-sufficient whereever possible?
I would like to hear your comments.
Hi again, your friendly insurance guy again.
Plenty of people drop their insurance to save money. Is it a good idea? That depends.
Each person's situation is different. Some people have the financial means to self-insure. Insurance is something a consumer purchases to push risk away from himself or herself. If you have the means to recover from any loss, no matter how severe, you probably don't need to insure against it except as a convenience.
The thing to keep in mind, however, is that the real risks consumers should use insurance to push away from themselves are the BIG risks, not the small ones. Health insurance, for example, is at its most powerful as a ward against the risk of having to pay for the expense of severe, long term, debilitating types of illness that cost incredible sums of money, like needing dialysis for the rest of your life, for example. Sure, it's nice to have the $25 co-pay instead of the full cost of the checkup, but that's not the real risk health insurance is protecting you from. Having to pay for a few checkups a year probably won't render you a financial wreck. Paying for three years of chemotherapy might.
In the end, what it boils down to is this:
Most people will never be in position to need the full benefits of the insurance they purchase, and that is a good thing. That's not nexessarily a reason to cancel it. People DO get cancer. People's houses DO burn down. People DO get into car accidents and get sued for millions of dollars. Ask yourself if you're prepared to look yourself in the mirror some day and say:
"Well, I guess I was wrong, it actually COULD happen to me."
Or worse, to your family:
"I'm sorry, I was wrong, I wish I had kept the insurance but I didn't."
As a person in the industry, let me tell you: Occasionally the phone rings at the agency and that second guy is on the other end of the line and the conversation goes like this:
"Can I get the insurance back so it will save my family?"
And then one of us has to try to figure out how to tell someone who's going to die that there's nothing we can do to help him any more. You have no idea just how awful it is to get that call.
So yes, you can cancel your insurance to save some money. Please decide if the risk you take by doing so is the right choice, and choose wisely. If you have the means to self-insure, by all means make whatever choice you wish. If not, be cautious and consider the wisdom of erring on the side of discretion.

Does anyone know anything about non owners insurance for the state of Missouri?
I need auto insurance
It only covers you, when you use a vehicle not owned by you, or any of your household members; and the vehicle must not be available to you for regular use.
Agents don't like to sell this, for two reasons: 1. it's a pain to write, as pretty much you have to go through the state auto fund of whatever state you're in, and you don't make nearly enough money to cover your costs in writing it and 2. most of the time, people are buying it for the wrong reasons, thinking that it's going to get them out of paying more money to insure them the right way – in other words, claims get DENIED, because people are driving regular use or household member vehicles without being listed.
In any case, you'll have to talk to a local agent about this. Don't try "do it yourself" insurance. If you're not an agent, you're probably misunderstanding something.

can you file a auto insurance claim without a police report if it happend on private property?
had car on a hill rolled down and is totalled did not get a police report because it was on private property. can i still claim it under my aoto or home owners insurance
Yes you can. There are many times when a police report is not filed! In my area, if both cars can be driven, and no one is injured enough to be transported to the hospital by ambulance, the drivers exchange information and the police do not write a report!
Contact your insurance company today to file the claim!

Why is my home owners insurance company(auto owners) sending out an Fire investigator ?
The Fire Dept already determined the cause.
Three possible reasons:
1) It’s just a random check.
2) They don’t agree with the Fire Investigator’s determination or somehow suspect it’s inaccurate or incorrect.
3) The Fire Investigator didn’t answer a question they have. (For example, he may have determined the location but not the source, or identified the source as an electronic device but not provided specifics about what the device is.)
They may be looking for someone to hold responsible. For example, if the cause was electrical, they may want to try to collect from the manufacturer of the device.

Which insurance company offers the best auto and renter's insurance rate? What is the discount % if known?
Looking to switch insurance companies. I'm paying 277/mo (6 mo) and currently do not have renter's insurance. I have 2 accidents 2 1/2 years apart. My last accident was in Dec. 2007. My car was totaled and I know my rates are going to sky rocket. I'm thinking that adding renters insurance & taking defensive driving may help offset my expected increase. To specify, im looking for auto & renter's, not auto & home owner's insurance. Thanks.
check into Allstate for a combo coverage but check with someone LIVE and local
