Cheapest Homeowners Insurance company in the Baton Rouge, LA???
My husband and I just purchased a home in Prairieville, LA, we haven't yet closed yet. I am searching around to find the cheapest homeowners Insurance company. If anyone has any suggestions please help!!! THANKS!
The fastest, easiest, and most reliable way to find the lowest competitive price is to contact an insurance broker familiar with your area. A broker works with several different insurance companies and can find the best rate for you. Brokers depend on referrals and a good reputation to stay in business, so they only work with quality companies. There is no charge for the service and no obligation to buy. To find a broker, log on to a website like http://www.homeownerswiz.com and fill out a form requesting a quote. Your information will be sent (in seconds) to broker in your area who will contact you, usually the same day. Good luck!

Since Katrina, a lot of companies aren't writing in Southeastern LA. And in Ascension Parish you're closer to Jefferson than Baton Rouge. I think your chances of finding any real competitive rates are low. You need to get in contact with an insurance agent in your area who represents a number of companies. Keep in mind, a lot of agents in Southeast Louisiana don't have much wiggle room these days and many companies aren't accepting new business from their agents. Some companies that are allowing their agents to write new business have some strict stipulations in order to write the policy. Hopefully you won't end up with a surplus lines company (not very competitive rates). No matter what company you end up with just be happy if it isn't LA Fair Plan, the state-run company of last-resort. If you call an agent and Fair Plan is the best they can do for you, continue shopping around.
Where do you live now? Do you currently have an insurance agent for your former house? If you do, I suggest calling them up. Even if you're moving from another parish or a city miles away from Prairieville, your current agent may be able to refer you to another agent in Prairieville.
Good luck in your search. I hope your premium doesn't end up being too steep. Just keep in mind, property insurance premiums are all pricey post-Katrina.
