   Contact your state Department of Insurance, and ask them for a list of the top 10 companies that do business in your state.

   Ask them for companies with A.M. Best ratings of A++, A+, A, or A-.
   These companies have excellent claims-paying abilities.

   A.M. best is an independent rater of insurance companies, and has been in business for over 100 years.
